Make sure you come out March 12 To the @maydayspace $5 and a dish for our potluck dinner 5-10pm One of our speakers followed by some amazing performances A bit about @wemakenoisenyc Lizzie and Parissah are part of the team that runs We Make Noise, a collaborative music education platform connecting teaching artists to creative youth in Brooklyn. They are trying to build partnerships with existing creative communities like Educated Little Monsters, sharing resources and collaboratively building programming. Our goals are to develop curriculum that matches the needs and dreams of local youth, and to cultivate a diverse teaching artist community that prioritizes the recruitment of native Brooklyn musicians. Lizzie and Parissah are also trying to apply their roots in critical theory to their practices in the nonprofit world, which means working to identify the ways in which nonprofits, especially those run by people with education, class, and/or race privilege, are most likely to reproduce the oppressive conditions that created the unequal access to arts resources in the first place, and to actively resist and subvert them. #bushwick #brooklyn #turnup #community #socialjustice #bridgingboroughs #bedstuy #bushwickdaily #dnainfo #bedfordandbowery #manhattan #bronx #queens #nyc #mayday

One of our speakers @moderndaywordsmith. @Capicuculture. Mario “Ponce” Pagan was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico but now calls Brooklyn home. Mario fell in love with poetry at the age of 12, after reading Pablo Neruda’s ‘Si Tu Me Olvidas’ in his grandmother’s bedroom. While attending Boricua College Mario began to reignite his love of Poetry, Mario was encouraged by his friends and later by his professors to share his work with others. While initially writing about everyday life, Mario began to see the need to use his voice as a catalyst for change; whether he is writing about his native Puerto Rico or what is going on in his neighborhood. He is a committed participant of the Capicu People’s Open Mic as well as a student of LaSopa: School of Poetic Arts. Mario has performed at the Loisaida Community Center: ¡Presente!
